Well I had another mammogram and man did that sucka hurt!!!!!! The doctor wanted to see more of my left booby and so a spot compression was done. And did she compress on that spot. Seriously, it hurt! Hopefully all is well and I won’t have to have that done again until next year.
I have a long to-do list for today and so far, well I managed to make a great lunch and there will be leftovers for dinner tonight. I love wraps and usually stuff them with lots of yummy, healthy foods. Ok, so chicken was marinading since morning in my favorites, Mojo, honey mustard, and spicy sauce. If you marinade your chicken or steaks in these I guarantee you will be happy with the outcome.

my fave marinade
Next, I added pepper, adobo, oregano flakes and paprika. I love to use paprika to add color to the chicken.

seasonings

cooking in its juices
While the chicken was cooking in it’s yummy juices I added some onions, carrot strips and spinach.
I wanted some fries with my wrap but they are off limits, so I cut up some sweet potato and sprinkled them with salt and pepper.
Chicken’s still cooking and an amazing aroma is filling my house. The sweet potato fries go in the oven to bake at 425 for about 15-20 minutes.
Next, I cut up some avocado and before I know it….chicken’s done! Start layering the whole wheat wrap with carrots, spinach, onions
Add the avocados
Wrap it up and start munchin’ on the ssaaaweeeeetttt potato fries

Sometimes I just wonder where my day goes. I really wanted to do my walk/run this morning but somehow never did. I got distracted doing other things and before I knew it, it was time to go pick up my nephew at school. So I regret not going for my walk/run earlier because now the lil’ guy won’t be picked up until after 8:30p tonight. By that time, I need major motivation to go out and exercise. Here’s today’s eats so far.
Breakfast: Fage yogurt, a peach and 1/2 an apple with cinnamon

LUNCH: Tilapia and salad
Tilapia, yogurt and panko crumbs cooked in 1 tbsp of olive oil for a couple of minutes on each side. The fish was seasoned with sea salt, pepper and paprika.

Tilapia cooked with yogurt n panko crumbs
I started the salad with baby spinach, tomato and avocado

Beginning of a great salad
Then the baby carrots and edamame were boiled for a lil’ bit, rinsed in cold water, and added to the salad.

I sprinkled the fish with a lil’ lemon juice, the salad with pepper and added some balsamic vinegar.
To die for!

And finally, added some lots of feta cheese.

And there you have today’s masterpiece to make up for yesterday’s epic fail.

THE A/C IS FIXED!!
THANK YOU JOHN!
THANK YOU LORD!
I’ve barely slept the last 2 nights (in this sauna) and this morning I missed my women’s bible study. DARN IT! But I was sooooo tired and sore from using the hedger yesterday. My arms hurt so bad! I wasn’t going to go outside yesterday because it was so hot but I gave in. Today I woke up to a 90 degree house. What I wanted to do was get in my car, crank up the a/c and just drive around. But I came to my senses and just waited for my friend John to come over and fix the a/c.
I had ICED coffee to start my day.

My 2nd glass
I can’t remember the last time I ate pasta. I indulged in carb overload today. Had cold pasta for lunch and then for dinner. I added some broccoli, carrots, tomatoes and garlic. Whipped up a quickie dressing that included: olive oil, vinegar, mayo, mustard.

veggies n pasta

quickie dressing
More carbs….mango/oj smoothie….nice and cold!

My favorite smoothie, mango!
Now I plan on sleeping for the next 8-10 hours!
Eat well, live long and thank God for your countless blessings!

Yesterday’s women’s Bible study: Is my agenda in sync with his? I pray that I can seek his perspective and agenda for my life. I love this group. Real women dealing with real issues.
I had to go to the doctor’s office yesterday after I left church to get a referral for another mammogram. The doctor wants to check on some ‘density’ that is showing up on the left booby.
Have you had a mammogram lately? There’s pink everywhere and it’s Breast Cancer Awareness month. Did you know that Breast Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in women in America? Lung cancer is 1st. According to the University of Pennsylvania’s oncolink resource, 1 in 8 women will risk getting Breast cancer in their lifetime. So a mammogram is a great step in finding and treating it early.
I’ve been eating healthier foods in the past couple of months so that I can boost my immune system and loose weight. I know that being overweight increases my risk of getting cancer. Here’s a list of some cancer fighting foods. These foods will not prevent you from getting cancer but by boosting your immune system you can fight it better. The American Cancer institute encourages us to eat more fruits and veggies, because we simply don’t consume enough.
Vegetables: broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, seaweed, swiss chard
Fruits: berries, grapefruit, pineapples, tomatoes
Also, add garlic, green tea, nuts and whole grains to your diet.
Remember, the choices we make, the foods we eat, and our physical activity levels — will all have a direct impact on our overall cancer risk.
I did some quickie groceries at Publix.

healthy goodies
My son is loving these power bars…made from organic oats and soybeans

Between one thing and another I didn’t get my workout in during the day and decided to go for week3day2 of the couchto5k program with an evening run. NOT!FOR!ME! I can take a nice walk in the evening but my body just doesn’t want to run. Yes it was cooler out (not much) but I’m spent by evening. I’m going to have to create and stick with a schedule. I’m not a morning person. Let me explain, I can get up early and usually do (6:30a-7a) but my body’s not quite ready for a workout that early. That’s probably due to the fact that I go to bed so late. It’s been so hot here in South Florida that there is no way I can go and attempt a run in this heat any later. So I’m left with a dilemma challenge. Oh what to do?
I”m going to commit to getting to bed earlier (at least 11p). When I get up tomorrow, I’m going to eat something light and energizing lace up my shoes and go for my run/walk. I can do this! YES I can!
Well, here’s my eats for yesterday.
- Breakfast- egg whites, spinach, turkey omelet and Arnold thin bread, topped with fatfree cheese
- Lunch – spinach salad, cucumbers, tomato, edamame, avocado, balsamic dressing, chicken
- Dinner – Boca veggie burger, with spinach, tomato and guac spread
- snack- yogurt and pumpkin butter ..mmmmmmm

So Eat well, live long and please go get a mammogram!

Monday seems to be a blur. Don’t remember it much. Hunter stayed home from school because over the weekend he played football and was bit by some little creature. Could have been an ant, spider, who knows. His elbow swelled up like a baseball. I waited 24hours and the swelling went down and all is back to normal.
I was directed to a great opportunity and need your votes DAILY in order to go on to phase 2 of this contest/job application. Go here and vote for me daily, I would greatly, greatly appreciate it. Seriously. Thankyou!!
Food yesterday was light, and filling. Yogurt and fruit for breakfast, leftovers for lunch and a yummy dinner.

leftover shrimp, tofu, brown rice, edamame for lunch
Dinner was baked salmon, baked sweet potato slices and asparagus.

sweet potato slices in the oven

Salmon going in the oven
Then I made a ‘mojo’ with 2 tbsp olive oil, garlic, lemon juice.

sauteeing olive oil, garlic, lemon juice....smells so good
Drizzled mojo over the salmon and the sweet potato slices.

That was my not so manic Monday!

Starting this month I will be divulging more detailed information about my weight loss journey. I’ve been enjoying this new healthy eating so much that I have neglected to give details about my specific weight loss goals. I truly am enjoying putting together fruits and veggies and creating some yummy snacks and meals that are lo-calorie. Even though it’s time consuming, I will be putting together a ‘recipe’ page with my quick and easy creations. Your suggestions are welcomed.
Friday I slept in and I hate when I do that because I tend to feel sleepier when I get too much sleep. Normally I get up at 6:30 with my son, sometimes make him a quickie breakfast and then start my morning. Yesterday I went back to sleep at 7a and woke up at 10a…yikes! I had a small cup of yogurt, banana and cinnamon. Then I did my C25K walk/run for 30 minutes. I spent some time on my job search (need a job badly), made some phone calls and before I knew it I was hungry again.
Lunch was a green smoothie that turned brown because of the blueberries and a yummy salad drizzled with balsamic dressing.

spinach, strawberries, blueberries, mango, oj

ready to blend

spinach, tomatoes,cucumber,avocado, edamame

I love this lunch because it’s light but filling. The edamame has lots of protein.
Later in the afternoon I “craved” coffee. Since caffeine keeps me up, I don’t usually drink coffee any later than 5p unless it’s decaf. I brewed a cup and sat and ‘designed’ my front and backyard landscaping. I’ve been working on my yard and have a visual of what I want it to look like. So I sat with my favorite magazine and cup of coffee.

Oh boy the caffeine kicked in and I felt an urge to move furniture. So I FINALLY moved the dead treadmill into the garage and moved a sofa into its place.

sofa replaced treadmill
I mopped the floor in my family room (aren’t they shiny) and did some laundry. I’ve been using vinegar to clean my floors and I love how shiny it leaves them. Whenever I sit and look at a design magazine I get ideas and so I started to rearrange a few things in the kitchen. Brought in some fresh flowers from the yard and voila, ready for fall.
I worked up an appetite after all that work and dinner was a yummy veggie wrap. I sauteed broccoli, asparagus, carrots and onions in a tbsp of olive oil and spicy teriyaki sauce. Then I spread my homemade hummus on a whole wheat wrap and filled it with the veggies. I only ate half of the wrap. Chelsea ate the other half. That girl (my son’s gf) can eat! She’s tiny but eats like a man, a big man!

yummy veggie wrap
Later I snacked on walnuts while catching up on Grey’s Anatomy.

That coffee kept me up pretty late. I think I finally went to bed around 2am. See, I told ya the caffeine kicks my butt.

Church was awesome….”Plugging into God’s Will”… Matt 6:10 Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
After I left church, I went next door to visit the nursery and was pleasantly surprised. I hadn’t been there in a while and they now have a Farmer’s Market. This is one of the prettiest nurseries I’ve ever seen.

Waterfall entrance

Since I’ve been working on my yard, I decided that I would eventually like to grow a small veggie garden. These boxes are such a great way for a novice like me to grow herbs and veggies.

mini herb garden box
and flowers….so pretty!

veggies
After sampling some delish caesar’s dressing and other goodies I headed home for a light snack. I had a wasa cracker, spinach dip, and lots of feta. I love this!
My nephew turned 15 and we went bowling to celebrate. I love bowling. But bowling did not like me today.
Here’s my son trying to spin his pink ball.

Hunter "strikes" a pose
I had 1 small slice of pizza, birthday cake and ice cream. So I indulged a bit this weekend, no biggie. I look forward to eating lots of veggies and fruits this week.
I’m bummed to say this, but I think I’ve caught another cold. I don’t know what’s up with my system, but I hope this doesn’t get any worse. Thank God I was able to enjoy my weekend, it was beautiful!
Eat well, live long and indulge once in a while!

Today was part deaux of yardwork duty, and I’m sore. I can barely type. My arms, legs, thighs, butt are all screaming loudly. But I’m getting a lot done and there is satisfaction in that. Soooooo, I did what sore people should do……luxuriated in a bubble bath
…..aaaahhhhh…..calgon…actually it was Aveeno .
I can’t remember the last time I filled the tub (for myself, not my nephew).

Oatmeal soothing mix

poured a couple of these in there
Got my candles lit……..

Sprinkled bath with flowers

More flowers and rosepetals
I told you it was a non quilty pleasure…..

Gotta have bubbles
Hold on foodies, promise food pics coming up soon….

Ahhhh HAPPY FEET!
I should probably do another post for the food, but, I’m too tired. It’s all going here. Last night’s dinner was a frozen meal (Kashi) and it was kind of bland. Followed by a Kashi cookie. I was too pooped to cook.

Kind of blah
My energy for all this yardwork today came from yogurt and fruit in the morning followed by a power smoothie!!! Loving those green monster smoothies.
Dinner tonight was a healthy, lo-cal fish, cauliflower mash and avocado.

Steaming Cauliflower for "mashed cauli"
Cauliflower Garlic Mash
-
steam 1/2 head of cauliflower florets
-
puree florets in blender with garlic clove
-
pour back in pan, add 1tsp butter
-
stir (for thicker mash, add potato flakes)
-
Tastes just like mashed potatoes

fish, mash and avocado
So there you have it. Wow, the kink in my neck is gone
thanks bubble bath.
Eat well, live long and take a bubble bath

Who the heck needs a gym workout when you have an overgrown and unattended yard??! It rained a lot this weekend and that just fuels up the weeds, plants and trees in my yard. I decided that I would spend an hour out in the yard and I ended up with quite the workout:
Arms….pulling weeds, branches, swinging the machete since I broke the garden big scissor thingy. I hope I can pick up a pencil tomorrow, cuz they hurt.
legs & butt……squatting, bending, squatting, bending, and lunging at some points.
God is merciful tho….he gave me a much needed rainfall (minus lightning) to refresh me. He knew I wouldn’t have lasted 20 minutes without that shower. Felt so good to just be in the rain.
These are some of the branches that no longer live in my yard.

some of my work!
These purple things are taking over!

pretty but they MULTIPLY fast!

more purple plants
I picked some roses….

I love roses
and some of these pretty white (insert name here if you know it) flowers.

and made a bouquet for my neighbor…..hope it lifts her spirits a bit.

flowers for a friend
I came inside and QUICKLY made a snack before I passed out! A Wasa cracker, hummus, tomato…..and..
and a Mango Green Monster:
Mango, 1 1/2 cups spinach, 1/4 cup OJ, 1/4 cup milk, agave nectar.
Soooooooo refreshing! I love love love this one!
I started my morning with Peanut butter and pumpkin butter on whole grain thins. I love pumpkin and this butter is soooooo good. Plus a nice cup of coffee.
I’m not sure what dinner will be…..hhhhmmmmmm….
Eat well, live long and do some yardwork!!
